First Visit to Northcote Lodge

One of the best things about being an author of books for younger readers is that I am often invited to schools to talk about my books. It’s always great fun, and a huge privilege. But when I visited Northcote Lodge yesterday, it was even more special because, this year, I am going to be your Patron of Reading! I had great fun meeting you all, and it was lovely to receive such a warm welcome. I enjoyed telling you about my books, about my unusual childhood, and it was fun to share some insights into my new book BELOW ZERO which will be published in January next year. I was especially relieved that most of you seemed to prefer the cover design that my publisher eventually chose. Oh, and you might be interested to know that when I was on the train home after visiting you, I received an email from my publisher telling me that they are putting the finishing touches to the cover and the final final FINAL version should be ready in the next couple of weeks. I will, of course, let you know when it’s complete!

Right then, I’m off to finish reading the Below Zero ‘page proofs’ and make sure everything’s exactly right before it goes away to the printer . . . I can’t wait for you all to be able to read the book.

Work hard, have fun, and keep on reading - because reading makes you smart!
