For seven years, our family home was in northern Sumatra. This gave us an ideal base for travel in the Far East, but one of the places we often went to was close to home - the company’s bungalow on the water’s edge at Lake Toba, not far from the town of Prapat.
The beautiful Lake Toba is the largest volcanic lake in the world. It stretches 100km, is 30km wide and sinks to depths of 500m. The lake is surrounded by cliffs and woodland and, in its centre lies the island of Samosir.
This has been the inspiration for my second novel, DARK HORIZONS, and on this page you will find some photographs of the places that were in my mind when I wrote the book.
These photos were taken in the ‘70’s and many of the places have changed since they were taken.
